Summary
France offers a growing number of university programs in data science, artificial intelligence and medical informatics. These include Master’s degrees (M2, one-year research-oriented programs) and University Diplomas (DU/DIU, shorter programs often designed for working professionals). This page lists the main programs identified.

Types of programs
Master’s degrees (M2)
Master 2 programs are one-year degree programs (60 ECTS), accessible after an M1 or by application for healthcare professionals. They fall into several main categories:
- Health data science — Programs focused on big data in health: machine learning, statistics, hospital data warehouses (Paris-Saclay, Paris Cité, Sorbonne, Rennes, Lille, Strasbourg…).
- Biostatistics and epidemiology — Statistical methods for biomedical research, clinical trials and epidemiology (Paris-Saclay, Lyon, Bordeaux, Montpellier, Toulouse…).
- AI in health — Programs focused on deep learning, medical imaging, clinical NLP (Lille, Marseille, Dijon, Caen, Strasbourg…).
- Biomedical informatics and e-health — Health information systems, interoperability, cybersecurity (national INFOMED, Bordeaux, Nice, Amiens…).
- Bioinformatics — Genomic and proteomic data analysis, molecular bioinformatics (Rennes, Nantes, Rouen, Lyon, Montpellier…).
University Diplomas (DU and DIU)
University Diplomas (DU) and Inter-University Diplomas (DIU) are shorter programs (a few weeks to a few months), often designed for working healthcare professionals:
- DU Artificial Intelligence in Health — Practical AI training for physicians and health professionals (Paris Cité, Strasbourg, Dijon…).
- DIU Health Data Reuse (REDS) — Training in partnership with the Health Data Hub, focused on exploiting the SNDS and data warehouses.
- DIU Generative AI in Health (GEN-IAs) — New diploma launched in 2025 on LLMs and generative AI applied to healthcare.
- DU E-health and digital — Telemedicine, connected devices, regulatory framework (Bordeaux, Montpellier…).

How to choose a program?
The choice depends on your profile and goals:
- You are a medical resident or physician and want to acquire AI/data science skills for research? An M2 in data science or AI in health will be most suitable.
- You are a healthcare professional looking for a short program? A DU or DIU will allow you to upskill without interrupting your practice.
- You are a data scientist or engineer looking to specialise in health? M2 programs in biomedical informatics or e-health will give you the domain knowledge.
- You are a mathematics or computer science student? M2 programs in biostatistics or bioinformatics offer many career opportunities in research laboratories and clinical data centres.
